Paragraph Writing Skill:

Important Suggestion:

1) Write a paragraph on a sportsperson you admire most. You may use the following points.

POINTS: Name of the sportsperson – the game he/ she is associated with – his/ her achievements – the reason for your admiration.

The Sportsperson I Admire Most

Sachin Tendulkar is the perfect sportsperson whom I adore. Born on 24 April, 1973, Tendulkar started playing first class cricket at the age of eleven, and made his test debut against Pakistan at the age of sixteen. He is the only player to have scored one hundred international centuries, the first batsman to score a double century in a One Day International (ODI). He is again the holder of the record for the most runs in both Test and ODI, and the only player to complete more than 30,000 runs in international cricket. He is lovingly called the little master by his fans. Recipient of many awards, Sachin, though a little introverted, is simple, helpful, generous, grateful and forgiving by nature. Obviously there cannot be any other choice for me at least.

2) Write a paragraph on ‘A Journey by Train’. You may use the following points.

POINTS: Place of visit – name of train – date of journey – name of the station from where you started – experience in the train – scenes outside – time of reaching the destination – your feelings.

A Journey by Train

Whenever I travel in a train, it always reminds me of my first train ride. I was five then, and my family decided to head to Delhi. My father and uncle booked ten tickets for the whole family. We boarded the Rajdhani Express on 3rd December, 2008 from Howrah station, Kolkata. I just loved the hustle bustle inside the train. Everyone seemed to be busy in their own world. I was observing the beautiful scenes outside – the greenery and the open fields were so beautiful to use. I had been fully overjoyed by the train ride even before we reached the destination.

3) Write a paragraph on early rising. You may use the following points.

POINTS: Introduction – good habit – health – good start – fresh energy – more time – work in joy.

Early Rising

‘Early to bed, early to rise’ is a saying followed by many. Early rising is a good habit which makes way to a good health and a good start for the day. During the morning there is fresh energy in us. Students are advised to study early in the morning with a fresh mind for a better understanding. Sleeping till late in the morning is a waste as we lose a lot of time doing nothing. The routine becomes haphazard and we tend to feel lethargic. Early rising benefits our mood to work with joy throughout the day.

4) Write a paragraph in about 100 words on ‘Autumn Festival‘.

POINTS: Introduction – duration of the festival – a brief description of the festival – the extent of mood, nature and appearance of Bengal and Bangalee people – Bijaya greetings and utility of such a festival in our life.

An Autumn Festival

For the Bengalee the Durga Puja is the grandest among the autumn festivals. It takes place for five days. This festival commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over a demon, Mahisasur. Bengal is a different place during the festival – bright lighted streets, thrones of people wearing new dresses and happiness. The Bengalis wait for this all through the year. Ashtami is the day when everyone wears new dresses to give ‘anjali’ to the goddess Durga. After a day, it is Dashami when we bid farewell to Ma Durga with tears in our eyes. Then vijaya greetings are exchanged. In our fast-moving heric life, this festival marks the beginning of a renewed energized life.

5) Write a paragraph in about 100 words on your favourite author. You may use the following points.

POINTS: Who is your favourite author – why is he/ she your favourite – his/her place in the history of literature – conclusion.

My Favourite Author

My favourite author is Sri Sarat Chandra chattopadhyay – the writer for the masses. He has depicted a true picture of the society of his time through his writings. After the great writers like Bankim Chandra, Rabindranath Tagore, Sarat Chandra is a much well-acclaimed writer, who, through his writings, has easily earned out a niche for himself in the heart of his readers. He has voiced out the feelings of the ordinary people through his writings. He has written many novels and stories of which ‘Devdas’, ‘Ramer Sumati’, ‘Bindur Chhele’, and’ Palli Samaj’ are my favourites. The characters he has depicted are very much life-like and such characters are met with us in any society. Truly he had given a new dimension to our Bengali literature.

6) Write a paragraph within 100 words about A Terrible Experience using the given hints.

HINTS: Returning from an educational excursion by bus – night journey – sudden breakdown – tyres punctured – had to wait for two hours at a lonely place – tyres fixed – back home.

A Terrible Experience

Last month, our school arranged an educational excursion to Santiniketan for the students of classes X and XI. We stayed there for two days. On our way back home we had a terrible experience. We left Santiniketan around 7 p.m. and it was a whole night journey. After having dinner we all were sleeping when there was a sudden breakdown. The driver informed us that one of the back tyres had punctured. There was no extra tyre and we had to wait for two hours at a lonely place. Then our English teacher called his driver and told him to send a mechanic with a tyre. At least the tyre was fixed and we all returned home safely.
