LETTER WRITING FOR CLASS – 5, 6 and 7 | Writing Skill

Introduction:

A letter is one of the important means of keeping in touch with friends and relatives, or doing business. We convey our thoughts or say, what we need to say, through our letters. Since a letter is written to a person who is at a distance we have to take special care while writing it. We have to see that our letter carries properly the thought and information we want to convey. So we should write our letters in simple, plain language. In this way we can avoid confussion or misunderstanding and make our letters pleasant to read. Letter-writing is, in fact, an art and this art is to be cultivated.

Different Types of Letters:

1) Private Letters – Written to friends and relatives.

2) Official Letters – Written to persons holding official positions, to the Headmaster or the Headmistress of a school.

3) Business Letters – Written to the head of a business organisation, to a trade or a manufacturer etc.

4) Letters to the Editors of Newspapers – Written to the Editors of different Newspapers on matters of public interest.

Different Parts of a Letter:

1) The Heading – The writer’s address and date of writing the letter.

2) The Salutation – The words by which the addressee is addressed

3) The Body – The subject – matter of the letter.

4) The Subscription – The courteous leave-taking of the writer.

5) The Superscription – The name and address of the person to whom the letter is written.
